Latin Quarter
Originally Toronto Friends, this 2200+ member community reemerged as the Latin Quarter post Covid pandemic. Now based in the Guelph region, we maintain the same drive which got us started over 15+ years, to ago bringing people together in both in fun, and memorable get-togethers. From smaller events like an afternoon coffee, to catching up over some board games with medium sized groups.
As always, face-to-face events remain our goal as we explore different venues, locales and take advantage and explore Guelph’s natural wonder found it is trails and green areas.
Standing different than our other sister communities, like the one found in Paris, our Latin Quarter is multilingual. We host events in both English, and in the most spoken of the Romance languages, Spanish; and unlike the Latin Quarter of the middle ages, we do not host events in Latin, mostly because it has been essentially extinct since about the Fall of Rome. The primary focus of the Spanish events is to follow the 1# Rule: To speak only in Spanish. As as way to practice it and maintain it and this is why the majority of our members who come out are native or intermediate-and-up speakers or those who want to practice it as to not lose their proficiency.
Either in English or in Spanish, the one common thread is for guests and members to have fun!
Guelph University is integral to the local culture, one with a lively nightlife, so if the shoe fits, put them on, and come out for an event or two! Both to treat yourself and mingle in English, and in Spanish, to practice one of the fasted growing languages in the world or want to keep your Spanish crisp. Since like with anything else, if you do not use it, you lose it. The language of the events will be stated in their description, you will always know if the event fits you.
Join us in exploring what Guelph has to offer and socialize with other, like-minded locals.
